The purpose of this blog is to enable the partners of CEFC to post news, opinions, and information the partners believe is helpful to our mission to aid sustainable environmental and economic restoration of the Chesapeake Bay.
The Chesapeake Ecofinance Company (CEFC) located in Annapolis, MD, is the result of a partnership led by the Biophilia Foundation with EcoAsset Markets, Inc. in a strategic alliance with Mission Markets, Inc. and Chesapeake Wildlife Heritage.
The Biophilia Foundation has been working for eight years successfully restoring Bay watershed farms. The work of the Biophilia Foundation is premised on the belief that only private landowners’ efforts to restore and protect natural resources, especially wildlife habitat, will recover the living resources of the degraded lands and watersheds of the Bay and our country.
EcoAsset Markets, working with USDA, The Nature Conservancy, and numerous regional conservation organizations has focused on developing assessment tools and methods for ecosystem services. It also developed some of the earliest ecosystem service markets. The Company is a forerunner and partner in CEFC.
Mission Markets began operations in 2010 in order to develop a private pilot exchange for environmental credits and other conservation mechanisms. The Mission Market platform provides market participants with transaction capability, price discovery and sector-specific information services.
Chesapeake Wildlife Heritage is dedicated to creating, restoring and protecting wildlife habitat and establishing a more sustainable agriculture through direct action, education and research in partnership with public and private landowners.
